The use of light emitting diode bulbs, more commonly called LED bulbs, has grown into a widespread choice for household lighting. Although LED bulbs have been around since the 1960s, it was only in the last few years when it was introduced in the market for residential lighting. Nowadays, more and more consumers are considering LED lighting for their homes, not merely because they are more energy-efficient compared with other kinds of residential lighting, but also because they are cost-effective.

Even so, aside from these two major advantages of using LED bulbs, here are some other benefits that LEDs are known to provide.

Long Life. While conventional light bulbs, such as the incandescent bulbs, generally last for only around 1,000 hours, LEDs last from 50,000 to around 100,000 hours. Fluorescent lights last for only about 10,000 hours. This means that if you're using LED bulbs, you won't have to constantly replace light bulbs in your home.

Tough. Toughness is another wonderful advantage that you will get from LED lights. Unlike other types of lighting, a LED light doesn't contain fragile filaments or any fragile tube that can be easily destroyed due to shock and vibrations. They are exceptionally tough and are resistant to heat, cold, vibrations, and shock. LEDs are more resistant to damage compared to other types of lights.

No UV or Infrared Pollutants. LEDs are considered the most eco-friendly lighting available in the market today. LED lighting makes use of crystals that convert small amounts of electricity into light. The power is supplied by a technology that makes it possible for LED bulbs to maximize energy efficiency. Also, LEDs don't create any ultraviolet radiation or infrared lighting and only create small amounts of heat.

Available in a Large Selection of Colors. Aside from white light, LEDs are also available in a wide range of colors, such as blue, green and red LEDs. Combining different LED colors can create stunning color changing effects and can light up your homes in various ways.

Available in a Wide Variety of Shapes. LEDs are also available in a wide range of shapes, making them suitable for various occasions. They can be used as decorative lighting during Christmas, parties, or any other special event. They are available in Christmas tree styles, garlands and rope lights.

Suitable for Most Systems. LEDs are suitable for most systems and can be installed successfully even by new users and even without reading the user's manual.

What's probably the only disadvantage that you have to deal with is the fact that LEDs are a little more expensive than the regular types of household lighting. However, buying LEDs, which can cost you around $40 to replace your 25-watt incandescent bulb, is very little money compared to the huge benefits for you and your home. In addition to the previouly mentioned benefits, LED bulbs light instantly and are cool to the touch. They can also be easily dimmed and require low-voltage power supply.

If you're looking for an energy-efficient lighting that can help you save on energy usage at home, LED lighting is certainly it. It may be expensive, but it's definitely worth the price.

The places where you will most frequently see LED bay bulbs being used is in buildings where areas of flooring need to be lit from a distance of 15 feet or more.

It isn't only homeowners and businesses that are reaping the benefits of installing LED lights. Today many of the major cities around the world have now chosen to install LED street lighting.

As we move towards creating a greener environment and make an effort to understand how switching on lights in our homes and office spaces everyday creates an impact on our surrounding, we always try to look for ways to change this and attempt problem solving but nothing seems to be effective enough.

With Christmas right around the corner, you may be looking at enhancing the beauty and ambience within and around your home. With LED (light-emitting diode) lights, you can now brighten up your home in a more cost-effective way.

Heard of LED lights before? I am sure you have, and even come across plenty of these lights when you are outdoors or even indoors. LED lights are fast turning into the most popular variant of lights out there today, and with good reason too.

As we all become a lot more aware of how turning a light on in our homes effects our environment we are looking at ways of reducing this problem.
