Light Emitting Diodes, or LED lights for short, present the latest lighting source available on the market today. This recent creation has totally changed lighting by changing how we create light. Instead of the conventional method of generating light through heat, LEDs create light by means of a process called electroluminescence.

However, the technology behind LED has made it higher priced than most alternatives. In fact, in comparison with candles, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs, LED light bulbs cost substantially more. But despite being more expensive than other lighting choices, the many benefits of it provide more than enough reasons for consumers to try it out at home.

1) Energy Saving

LED light bulbs do not demand a lot of energy in order to create light. They create light in a process known as electroluminescence instead of changing electrical energy into heat (like in candles or incandescent bulbs). In short, it alters the state of an electron to make it glow. This method eliminates, or at least substantially lessens, the quantity of energy wasted when producing light. Also, since the structure and volume is much less than that of standard bulbs, less wattage is necessary to produce the same degree of illumination.

2) Longer Functional life

As compared to other lighting options, LED light bulbs usually last longer from around 25,000 to 50,000 hours subject to temperature and current settings. Some LED light bulbs even take 100,000 hours before full failure is achieved. This is because LED lighting experience minimum deterioration as opposed to other lighting sources. They do not have any shortening wicks, burning filaments, or consumable vapors.

Fluorescent bulbs are reported to last only for 10,000 to 15,000 hours.

3) Smaller dimension

Since the mechanism behind LED depends only on the size of the semiconductor chip, there is no need for voluminous confinements. The smaller the chip is, the smaller the LED light produced. This, however, does not always translate to luminous level. It does not suggest that simply because LED light bulbs are smaller, they are dimmer than lights produced by other sources.

Instead, LED lighting, depending on the type and function, can sometimes be brighter than other sources of light.

4) Durability

As there are essentially no moving parts within LED light bulbs, they are more resistant to shocks and vibrations. Also, because their structure has done away with the need for glass (and other fragile elements), they are usually more robust and tougher than bulbs, this way making it the most durable source of lighting.

5) Speedier switching

With regards to fluorescent and incandescent bulbs, light is produced through superheating a medium. This is not the same for LED lighting. As soon as electricity flows through the chip, electroluminescence almost instantaneously happens. This allows LED light bulbs to be switched on and off faster than other sources of light. In fact, it can achieve full brightness within microseconds.

6) No negative reactions

LED lamps do not use Mercury vapor unlike fluorescent lamps. They are hence safer to dispose of and less toxic than typical fluorescent bulbs

The aforementioned are a few of the great advantages of using LED lighting in your house.
